Making Your Goals Real
You've done some great work and identified your goals, now it's time to make them real. The most significant reason for documenting your goals is that they provide clarity and purpose. Without structure, even the best intentions can drift.
Let’s transform those goals into something concrete using the SMART framework.
Activity: Making Goals SMART
Use the Creating Your Awareness Blueprint Worksheet below to take your top 3 personal and top 3 professional goals and make them:
- Specific (exactly what do you want?)
- Measurable (how will you know you've achieved it?)
- Action-Oriented (is it within your control?)
- Realistic (is it possible?)
- Time-bound (when will you achieve it?)
Examples:
- Vague goal: "Get healthier"
- SMART goal: "Exercise 30 minutes 3x per week and track my meals daily in MyFitnessPal to lose 15 pounds by December 31st"
- Vague goal: "Improve my leadership skills"
- SMART goal: "Complete one leadership course per quarter and implement three new strategies with my team, getting feedback through monthly one-on-ones, by end of Q4"
Keep these goals handy for reference as you move through the course.
Once your SMART goals are in place we'll zoom out next and explore how your past experiences—your defining moments—have shaped the path you’re on.
